The maximum anti-depressive effect comes in 2-3 weeks of the treatment course. In particular, a patient has a good mood, and has no melancholy or depression, no apathy, sense of fear or inner tension.

Doxepin for sleep has to be taken 1-2 times a day with your meal or soon after it, since you don’t want to get irritation to gastric mucosa. The recommended dose of Doxepin for elimination of sleep disorders, anxiety and moderate depression – it is 75-150mg of the drug. In minimal manifestation of disorders, the recommended dose of Doxepin is 25-50mg. But in case of more severe anxiety and depression, the daily dose of Doxepin is up to 300mg.

The indicated dosages can be changed to adjust the individual dose, by doctor only. Nevertheless, a single daily dose should never be more than Doxepin 150mg. In case of sleep disorders, the larger part of a daily dose is recommended to be taken at the evening. The treatment course duration is in general 2-3 weeks. At the end of the therapy, patient should better decrease the dose of Doxepin step by step. Otherwise, the sharp termination of Doxepin intake may cause the withdrawal syndrome.

It is necessary to refrain from drinking alcohol, using MAO inhibitors as well as avoid driving a vehicle and other mechanisms, during the period of treatment with Doxepin for sleep.

The drug can cause the following side effects: dizziness, headache, insomnia or sleepiness, confused mental state, disorientation, excessive sedation anxiety, dryness in mouth and nasal mucosa, nausea, vomiting, constipation, bradycardia or tachycardia, excessive sweating, muscle tremor, itching and skin rash.

Doxepin for sleep is strictly prohibited for children under 12 years old, for pregnant and nursing women, as well as in hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, prostate adenoma, angle-closure glaucoma and AV block.
